What does being Pro-Life really mean?

Psalm 36:9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

I got one of those mass messages the other day to 'like' a page on facebook, one dedicated to the pro-life movement, a cause I'm passionate about, made more so by loss and miscarriage. If you've been through this you know too the miracle that is a healthy pregnancy and child, and that life is not merely about the multiplication of cells, or a heart beat.

Life is so much more than simply breathing.

So then what exactly does pro-life mean? To be pro something is to be against something else. If we are pro-life, we must be anti-death. And if we are pro-life, we must be pro-life in every sense of the word. Our message to those around us must be consistent.

So if we say we're pro-life but protest at a gay man's funeral, are we really?

Or picket and scream at women at abortion clinics?

Or post derogatory statements on social media pages?

Or love judgement over grace and mercy?

Or follow the rules, but fail to understand the point of them?

Or dishonor another?

Or use our words for division and death?

What does it say to the world at large when we claim to be pro-life, but fail to walk in it?

What can we give to the world when our own hearts and hands are empty, or worse, full of death? We can not give away what we do not possess.

The war for the hearts and minds of men cannot be won by manipulation or punishment.

Jesus did not whip the woman at the well who'd had five husbands. He did not shun the adulteress. He did not shame the traitor or hate the doubter.  He spoke life over them and they left Him full of it.

He was pro-life in every way, in every aspect of His ministry. He gave it away wherever He went.

And so too, should we, but only if we have it ourselves and only if we know our Source.

When we do, we'll send a message that is really pro-life, a message that has the power to transform not just people's actions, or the laws of a country, but the hearts and minds of generations to come.

Because true life, the kind He offers, is contagious! Once we have it we won't be able to do anything but give it out!

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the fullest

**Not talking politics here. We're talking people and loving on them, something I'm still learning to do well, daily. **
