Sundays: Love

1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

The late morning sun shines through the cracks of our blinds as I roll over and stretch, bracing myself for the day.

I hear the front door shut and two dogs scampering up the stairs, all fluff and gruff, ready for the play.

They hop on my bed and shove their noses in my face, their eyes screaming, "Wake up, wake up!"

Then I hear my husband who has jumped back in bed also, he nuzzles up close to kiss my neck. Lucky, our bold dog, the one we found wandering, skinny, unwanted...he climbs upon us both and lays his head down right on my chest.

And I imagine days were maybe instead of Lucky the pekingnese, it's our children running to jump into bed, playing pile on dad.

There are still so many things to look forward to, and I thank Him for grace, for patience, for endurance to run this thing we call life and marriage. For making us both holy along the way, closer to the way we were before that infamous tree.

It's there the world seems to make the most sense, right there in that bed, a shelter from the storm, a place to rest my head and heart.

These are moments worth remembering when the storms rage. The hope that every Sunday, the day the Lord rested, we rest too, in each others arms, one pile of messy, courageous love.
