Marriage Mondays: I know you love me when...

Every Monday I'll be joining The Runamuck and a host of other married bloggers in writing letters to our spouses. The hope is that by seeing people go after their marriages, you'll go after yours harder . Marriage is in fact hard, complicated, messy, terrifying, and absolutely heart wrenchingly beautiful. And it's worth fighting and writing for. This weeks theme is 'I know you love me when.'

You,

The other day my temper flared. I took the frustrations of an already long day out on you, and you didn't deserve that. But instead of fighting back, you know what you did? You rubbed my back for an hour and played with my hair (which we both know is the key to my heart).

When I gave you my worst, you gave me your best and when you do that it's like getting kissed by grace.

Of course, our fights don't always end that way. Sometimes it's your worst we're facing, and I struggle to find the same grace you have with me for you, my mouth spewing harsh words that I know cut and run deep, deeper than I know. That's when I'm sure that I got the better end of the deal here
because those grace-filled moments? Those are worth loving and fighting for.

Those are the moments I feel your love for me the most and His love too, the way you run your fingers through my hair or kiss that place near my ear that only you know about--when you put your monstrously big hands on my shoulders and rub the muck away, even after we've fought, yelled, and raised hell.

That's when I know you love me, and when I'm sure that this thing we're in is right, because no matter how far we fall into anger or frustration, no matter how badly we mess up, we find a way to climb back through to love.

And I'll be forever yours, that girl with the temper and occasional potty mouth, who lives for those fingers through my hair and those hands that make the world go away.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

  1. This sounds like scenes from my life! I love the phrase you used "kissed by grace." My occasional potty-mouth is amazed by such grace.
