On Bacteria and Belief systems...

I'm sick today.. my nose is running, my throat hurts, I have a fever and chills, and even my teeth ache. Getting sick is funny when you really think about it. One day you're fine, and the next day you're not. What changed between last night and this morning? What unseen forces have invaded our bodies? My Pastor often exclaims that what's "true in the spiritual is also true in the natural," our bodies being no different. Think about it for a second. Much like the germs that have caused my infirmity, it's so easy for a lie, vow, or judgement to sneak in past our defenses. It's really a war-zone out there and just as our body must wage war against the billions of infectious bacterias and viruses that it comes against, our minds must wage war against the barage of lies, vows, judgements, and belief systems that the world and our enemies throws at us. Maybe this is just the reason that Paul urges us to "take every thought captive." I think that Paul realized that it wasn't just a natural battle we were in, it's also the battlefield of the mind.

Last week I was tired and when I came up against a situation that irritated me the floodgates opened, and out came a lie that I'd been believing about myself that I had no idea was even there. I thought I'd purged the lies about rejection before, but this one had snuck in like a stealthy soldier.

So how does one fortify against the unseen? Easy, by building ourselves up in truth. Truth is what will destroy lies. When Satan tempted Christ in the desert, Christ always responded with scriptural truths. He knew what God had said about Him and His mission. That's how we fight back, by knowing without a shadow of a doubt who God says we are and what His purposes are for us. We let His truths fight the battle for us. It's only when our defenses are down, that anyone can invade our belief system.

Now, I just wish it were that easy to get rid of this cold. Anybody have a Tylenol?
