An inner makeover...

Proverbs 27:19 19 Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.
~The Message Bible

Proverbs 23:7 7For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he

We've all heard the cliche's I'm sure, cliches about having to cleanse our hearts, purify our intentions, and many other eye roll inducing quick turns of phrase that bank a spot in any Christianese dictionary. I refuse to talk about these, because I think they are not relevant. They sound too put together, too quick referenced to do anyone any real good.

I love Proverbs 27:19 because it just goes to show us all that you cannot hide how you truly feel. Even the best actresses on the planet cannot fake true sincerity or authenticity. God gave us a radar, didn't you know? It's that sinking feeling you get when someone is a bit "too" nice, the kind of nice that is being played up. It's that awkward feeling you get around women who just "try too hard."

No makeup, facial, or body wrap can hide a woman whose heart is found wanting. No plastic sugery can hide the face of a woman who isn't at rest in the peace of God. Whatever you believe about yourself, ends up spilling out in your behavior and appearance. Even the most physically beautiful woman in the world can be called ugly by those around her if her presence merits it.

Today I sat down and thought of the most beautiful person I know. She isn't a supermodel or an actress, she isn't even all that physically appealing, but something about her draws others in. She has more friends than anyone I know because people draw to her. There's a light in her eyes, a kindness in her voice, a complete vulnerability with friends, and a fierce loyalty to love that makes her the most beautiful person I know, and it has nothing to do with her physical traits.

I think that's God's real recipe for beauty. He's the master styler, the best maseuse, and the perfect physician. I trust his recipe for beauty, and it all starts right here; in my heart. But hey, I'm still booking the massage. ;-)
