God, the Romancer

As women we long to be loved in a certain way, a way unique to our femininity. We long for romance. We are wired for it; it's what makes our hearts com alive. You know that. Somewhere deep down inside, you know this. But what you might never have known is this...This doesn't need to wait for a man...
~John Eldredge in Captivating

When Kevin and I first started to date we frequented a park nearby. We'd go picnic there and one particular day stays in my memory. It was cold, autum, and the air was crisp but the sun was out in full force. We decided to picnic and then lay out in the sun by the lake and we just nodded off slowly to sleep, him holding me. I'll cherish that memory forever. It's there that I felt safe from harm, happy, and warm. It was one of those surreal afternoons that one could make up from a movie.

That's what I want my relationship with God to be like. I'd much rather have him hold me in the sun as I nod off to sleep than to do anything else. People strive to be religious and spiritual and it's all for naught, because His burden is easy and His yoke is light. He calls to us to "rest" and "be at peace." He longs to sit with us for hours. He longs to look into your eyes and to romance you more than you've ever been before.
